Bear has a way about him that i admire so much. He is such a great talent and a wonderful friend and teacher. I have only gotten to know Bear as a great friend since 2003 when he joined Acoustic Blue. I could have never prepared myself for what an impact he would have on my life and my music. I have spent many hours talking to Bear on the road hearing many stories about his past. He has taught me many things about life by the examples and stories he has shared with me. I was not very confident with my "Bluegrass" when i met Bear but over time he has encouraged me and given me strength in areas i thought i would always struggle. Bear is the reason i gained the courage to bring out my first origional song and besides the fact that i am honored every time i take the stage with him, i also know that he is there pulling for me and helping me be my best. I have had the pleasure of writting with Bear and i love singing with him. Bears voice has a quality about it that i can't quite put words on but it affects me deeply when he sings. It may be because i know enough about him to appreciate his passion and love for singing, playing and entertaining. I have been fortunate enough to sing some of the great songs he has written and that is a true honor. Bear is a Class act always giving it his all and i have learned how important that is from him. I think Bear sees himself as a dad to all of us in our group but i see him as my brother, my friend and my Leaner on the stage. Bear has shared things with me about entertaining and has constantly given me his approval which i cherish because i have always felt that he is the "real thing" and he is always honest and always Leaning to his audience, friends and family. Thank you Bear for being a huge Leaner for me. I look forward to many more Leaning Moments with you on and off the stage. I also plan to keep you with me as long as your willing. Thank you for making me a better entertainer and for continuing to keep me on the straight and narrow. Love "Young Hank"

Just had to let everybody know what an outstanding performance AcousticB did on Saturday. The music and harmony was just beautiful. Their presentation and communication with the audience was terrific. The standing ovation was well deserved. Bear you impressed everybody with the speed of replacing the broken string on the bass!! Ted and I and our group just loved your shows. Don't see how you can get any better but know you will!! Your new CD is great too!
Just love you guys. The best, M&T Phillips

Hi Bear!

We think about you often. Miss you very much. We do hope we will get out to a couple shows this summer. Norm and I have always loved to watch you perform with the band.

We have enjoyed watching and listening to you ever since we met you way back up in Thomas Point Beach, Me., many years ago.

Always

Sorry Bear guess I put this in the wrong page so here it is again.
When I learned Bear had this page, i knew I was going to write something
but!!!!!. what do you say about multi talented guy like Bear?
He's got more going for him then half dozen other men put together ought to have.
When I think of Bear ( which I do often) I think of the old truck he restored. ( ask him to show you the picture). The many instruments he has repaired or built from scratch, the old blacksmith shop he turned into a house ( home), Banjo, guitar, Bass, Playingsinging. writing songs, promoting a successful festival for many years, Band Leader, Sideman, School teacher, Patriot, Family man, a man his peers look up to, Wit trade Magazine editor, ( plublisher) Did I mention Wit, a play it as it lies golfer, A man who goes out of his way to lend a hand to others and does it all left handed ( except for golf)
All of this and more. It is a privilege and an Honor to call Bear Acker my Friend.

Bear reminded me over the weekend just how talented he is with his harmony. I love to listen to his great baritone lines that make (AB) blend so well.

I really don't remember the first time I met Bear. I heard about him all the time from my Dad, Andy Pawlenko. I knew about Tina and their children - the famous Dolly Pardon knock-knock joke and many others he and Dad played out while on stage to entertain the fans. All the elbow tipping after the shows, the laughs, I heard about it all. I think my first Leaner moment with Bear was on the phone when I was at the house caring for Dad. I don't remember what we said, all I could feel was the heartfelt love and support his voice was giving. He felt the same way I did about Dad. It helped me get through that tough care-giving night. The next Leaner moment, looking back, was after the Memorial we had for Dad. I was able to get up and sing a few lines of a Harry Chapin song that always reminded me of my father. After the Memorial we went to my Aunt Mary + Uncle Ted's and Bear came up to me and said, "You really sing from the gut, don't you?" Well, I really didn't know what he meant by that - I'm not overly confident in my voice, though I love to sing. It wasn't until months afterward I received an email from Bear telling me that he hoped I would continue singing because I had the "gift" my Father did. Needless to say, I had to be picked up off the floor. Thank you for your kind words and soft spoken support.
