What can I say about Alex that he doesn't already know. He's a good lookin', wise cracking, always got something to say lovable kid. He's a joy to have around and I can tell you, there is never a dull moment while he's here. He's 'neat-freak' just like his dad and his other gramma and his Uncle Corey, but, I have to tell you, he's a God-send around here. lol He's always willing to give a helping hand and is ready to play games whenever you are. And he usually beats the pants off of you to boot. He's very smart, easy to get along with kid and when it comes to babies, he's a very mature care taker as well. He loves little kids and loves taking care of them and he's good at it. Hopefully, that trait will stay with him when he himself becomes a dad. (Not for a while yet, Al). Enjoy your youth and stay the happy easy going person that you are and you'll go a long way in life. All the folks here at our park get a big kick out of you as you well know. I love you bunches. Mr. Personality....Alex has all the ingredients to make his way in the world. He's compassionate, charming, comical, helpful, and kind and courteous to his elders which I find rare in a guy this age. When you have a grandson like Alex you know the world is going to be okay if he has anything to do with it.
One of my favorite stories about Alex is when he was at our house and we were having our Direct TV system installed. The technician installing the unit had a foreign accent which was hard to understand and you paid close attention when he talked to find out what he was saying.
Alex decided he was going to help this man and followed him outside. About 10 minutes later Alex came back into the house all frustrated. We asked him what was wrong and he said, "I can't help him, I don't understand a word he's saying!"
Another story was when we had gone fishing. His dad, brother Zack, me and his grandmother Gloria were on our pontoon boat casting our lines. I didn't realize that Alex had his pole straight up in the air directly behind me. I made a cast and my lure caught the tip of his pole, yanked it from his hand and sent it sailing out into the water. Of course, it sank to the bottom never to be seen again. We had extra poles on the boat and we rigged one for Alex to keep to replace his pole.
When we were all done fishing and exiting the boat, Randy turned to the boys and asked them to thank me for taking them out on the boat.
Zack thanked me and then it was Alex's turn.
"Thanks grandpa for taking us fishing......and thanks for losing my pole!"
Randy was mortified and told Alex to apologize for that comment. I chuckled because I probably would have said the same thing when I was his age. And, knowing Alex, this wasn't a comment of disrespect in my eyes, it was the comical side of Alex emerging. I cherish comments like that and place them in my bank of fond memories - it makes me even more proud to part of his life.
Never change Alex! You're one in a million........
