I have created this leaner page in honor of my friend Colleen. I met Colleen many years ago when she needed an attorney. I must admit that I was somewhat apprehensive about her coming to our office because she had an infection I knew little about. That is when the teaching began, Colleen taught me about her infection and her health condition. As time passed, I got closer to her and she got more and more sick. You see, she was battling an insurance company for the right to get a lung transplant. She ultimately won. But she nearly died first. Colleen had gotten so sick before her transplant and on many occasions the people around her would just pray and pray for one more day. Finally, our biggest prayer request was answered. Colleen had a successful double lung transplant. I will never forget the day that I went to see her in the hospital. She had just been transplanted and she was sitting up in a chair with tubes coming out of her chest. And she was pink. My beautiful friend was actually pink! She wasn't wearing oxygen, her fingers weren't blue! It was amazing! On my long drive home, I thought about other times that I had left her after a visit. I would always think I was fortunate to have seen her that one more time. Fortunate to have seen her smile that one more time. I don't know how she has been through such a fight and continues to be such a blessing to people. She is truly an inspiration. She is a giver and a fighter and I am proud to know her. It has been a few years now since her transplant and her life is still a struggle. She struggles to fight rejection, viruses, and bacteria. But, she never complains. She just keeps moving on. She has a wonderful husband named Bill, who is one of the sweetest, selfless men I have ever met. The two of them are heaven sent and are truly inspirational. Many thanks to my special friend for teaching me how to celebrate life. Many thanks to Colleen's donor, whose soul must rest peacefully. Thanks to the people at the Leaning Institute for giving us a place to share the special people in our lives.
